The surrounding areas of Dharampur, South Gujarat, are home to a tribal population that struggle to cope with poverty and illiteracy. For majority of the families here, farming and animal husbandry are the main sources of income, and hence the population is extremely dependent on animals that assist in agriculture. It was noticed that for animals in this region, both domesticated and wild, access to timely and affordable medical treatment was scarce – leading to an adverse situation for the community at large.
Shrimad Rajchandra Mobile Veterinary Service was introduced to provide medical care to animals right at their doorstep. A team of veterinary experts travelled to interior villages to offer medical treatment to animals in need. But working remotely in rural areas did not allow for detailed investigations that were often required in complex cases. Further, performing surgeries in the open without sterilisation facilities could increase the risk of infection.
To cater to the growing needs of more comprehensive medical care for animals in South Gujarat, the Shrimad Rajchandra Animal Nursing Home was inaugurated in 2019. It offers quality medical treatment for animals at highly subsidised or no cost to farmers and animal owners. Several people chose to travel from distant villages to ensure their animals receive high quality treatment at the nursing home.
Since its inauguration, the nursing home has been operating at full capacity treating thousands of animals, including a wide variety of species like dogs, cows, horses, parrots, pigeons, etc. It has also been helping the forest department from time to time to treat complex cases of wild animals like tortoise, cobra, eagles, etc.
Shrimad Rajchandra Animal Nursing Home is a one-of-its-kind medical facility offering high quality treatment to animals and birds in the rural areas of South Gujarat.
Operated by a staff of expert veterinary doctors and professional livestock inspectors, Shrimad Rajchandra Animal Nursing Home is well-equipped with modern technology and diagnostic facilities like:
A severely injured snake was recently brought to the Shrimad Rajchandra Animal Nursing Home. The snake was found in a bad condition, coiled inside a bottle. When examined, it was found that a small sharp object had pierced its throat.
