Waste Management

There is minimal waste discharge outside the Ashram premises, made possible by using an organic waste composter and biogas plant. 48 metric tonnes of food and garden waste per year is utilised to get 36 metric tonnes of high quality organic compost. After a methodical categorisation of waste from the source (i.e. using different coloured bins for collecting different types of waste), the waste is treated in the following ways:

Wet Waste and Dry Leaves: Converted into compost for plants or biogas using a composter
Plastic Waste: Washed and used for resale
Paper Waste: Recycled
Medical Waste: Incinerated
E-Waste: Resale / Recycle
