A woman plays a pivotal role in her family and her upliftment is the cornerstone for the development of the society. Less privileged women in India are subjected to high poverty, low education and poor health. Women in rural areas are denied opportunities and rights due to their financial dependency. For rural households, the pattern of finance involves day-to-day earning and spending and borrowing at high-interest rates for health issues, social events, emergencies etc., driving families into debt traps. It is important for rural women to have a financial vision and take steps for the good health and well-being of their families.
Shrimad Rajchandra Financial Literacy and Opportunities for Women (FLOW) Programme imparts financial literacy to rural women on aspects of financial management through campaigns, workshops and seminars on subjects like smart savings, wise spending, minimising debt and matured borrowings. We also educate women about the available banking and government financial and insurance services. This initiative has been undertaken with SEWA’s (Self-Employed Women’s Association of India) The Indian School of Microfinance for Women.
