The rural population of the Valsad district of Gujarat, India, among the poorest in the state, grapples with poverty, malnutrition, and poor literacy. These factors lead to a host of problems including premature births, physical and mental disabilities, and increased disease vulnerability.

Shrimad Rajchandra Hospital (SRH) is a charitable, multi-specialty hospital located in Dharampur, Gujarat that offers a wide range of services rarely seen in rural settings. It is one of the best-equipped hospitals in the area, and the government of Gujarat has designated it as a First Referral Unit (FRU) in Valsad. SRH provides comprehensive care at subsidized or no cost to underprivileged patients. As part of its holistic community healthcare model, SRH provides prenatal care for mothers, neonatal care for infants, and an early intervention center for children with disabilities and congenital complications. Additionally, SRH organizes medical screening camps in remote villages where doctors examine thousands of patients annually.
