The Marathwada region of Maharashtra faced a severe drought this year, disrupting the normal life of the people; several farmers committed suicide. Government data shows that against the normal rainfall of 683 mm, Marathwada received 535 mm rainfall last year, recording a rainfall deviation of 22 per cent. Rainfall was deficient by 30-50 per cent in 40 of the 76 talukas. In response to this catastrophic situation, Shrimad Rajchandra Love and Care along with Marathwada Gramin Vikas Sanstha worked towards the de-silting, deepening, repair and reconstruction of two check dams in Marathwada. This will increase the water supply by 43 lakh litres, benefitting more than 5,000 residents and hundreds of cattle in the villages of Bhokargaon and Zolegaon to cope with any future drought situation.
