Approximately 15 years ago, the Ashram had originally built a 100 ft. wide and 9 ft. high check dam with the objective of storing rainwater for the purpose of recycling and reusing water.
However, with the Ashram community growing multifold, a decision was made to desilt the current dam and build a new dam structure on the same site, with 8x the storage capacity.
The new check dam will have 9 months of utility (from the previous 6 month) and will have a storage capacity of ~5,168 cubic metres.
The benefits of the check dam are not limited to rainwater harvesting and increasing the sustainable use of water, but also spans to groundwater recharging and increasing the water table of the area.
