In 2013, Maharashtra was hit by a severe drought, one considered as the region’s worst in 50 years. The situation was so bad that only a litre of water would be available for use per person each day, for all activities.
We were alert and sensitive to the worsening situation in these drought-hit areas and responded swiftly to the need for relief and care. We adopted the village of Bavi in Beed district of Maharashtra and undertook water storage projects aimed at developing sustainable irrigation and drinking water sources like man-made lakes, which would provide a source of drinking water for the entire village, and for future generations to use. We also helped ban fishing in these lakes, so as to preserve the life of fish.
