Deyaan Udani, a 7-year-old resident of Sydney, Australia and an SRLC volunteer, became the youngest organ donor in India when his heart, kidneys and liver were harvested/donated after the doctors at a Mumbai hospital declared him brain dead. Deyaan was touring India with his family when he suffered from a brain clot and died at a Mumbai hospital.
The family decided to donate his organs to give a new lease of life to four critically ill patients, three of whom were children. Deyaan’s heart went to a two-and-half-year-old girl suffering from dilated cardiomyopathy. In his untimely death, Deyaan lit the lamp of hope for several lives in future and became the torchbearer of Shrimad Rajchandra Organ Donation Programme. His legacy continues even today as thousands of people become aware of the need for organ donation and sign up to pledge their organs after death.
