Shrimad Rajchandra Hospital saves Purvi, a 34-day old baby girl with severe post-COVID complications
Purvi, a 34-day old baby girl with severe post-COVID complications, was referred to Shrimad Rajchandra Hospital from a local facility for ventilator support and intensive care.
At the time of admission, Purvi was in a very poor condition – she was convulsing, had trouble breathing, displayed high-grade fever and was severely anaemic. The team’s investigation revealed that Purvi was suffering from MIS-C (multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children), a new, potentially serious illness in children that is a delayed, post-infectious complication of COVID-19. Further tests indicated that Purvi suffered from brain haemorrhage and had a minor clot in her heart. She also tested positive for COVID antibodies.
Treatment in alignment with the Government of India’s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare was undertaken to treat Purvi’s MIS-C. Doctors intubated her, put her on ventilator support, and began treatment with fluids, blood transfusions, antibiotics and anticonvulsant medicines.
After 7 days of ventilator support, Purvi’s vitals became stable and she was extubated. She raced towards recovery, and spoon feeding and breast feeding began as well. After a period of observation, Purvi was discharged from the hospital!
Now, Purvi is a healthy baby girl, spending quality time at home, safely comforted in the loving embrace of her family!
