SRLC helps less privileged women turn their passion into a profession

SRLC helps less privileged women turn their passion into a profession

In a heartwarming story, women from the low income areas of Mumbai turned their new-found passion for beauty and makeup training into their profession! Recently, SRLC joined hands with Society of the Helpers Of Mary, a social organisation which works with women, to organise a basic beauty course women from this background.

Over the next 3 months, a team of SRLC volunteers led by a professional beautician, taught them the art of beauty and makeup. The class of around 20 participants from Jogeshwari, Mumbai, were taught various modules, such as threading, eyebrows, bleach, facial, manicure, pedicure, waxing, hair mehendi, and head massage. SRLC offered the participants all the required material and provided them with a complete guidebook which had step-by-step instructions. The women were also briefed on the various skin types and suitable products available in market and were taught the do’s and dont’s of working in a professional parlour. The course culminated with the distribution of certificates and an inspiring experience sharing session by a professional beautician, who shared the importance and hard work and dedication.

SRLC has now tied up with Miracle Beauty Parlour and Spa, Mumbai, which also runs a training institute for aspiring beauticians. A group of 6 participants from the class, who wish to pursue this as a career, will now join this institute for further training sponsored by SRLC. Through this course, the women will get hands-on practice of working in a professional parlour setup and will get the training necessary for being employed or even freelancing. In fact, 2 participants from the course have already started booking professional orders!

Through such initiatives, SRLC continues to help women from less privileged backgrounds to become self-reliant and financially independent.
