Celebrating World Environment Day through ‘Trees for Peace’

Celebrating World Environment Day through ‘Trees for Peace'

Celebrating World Environment Day, Shrimad Rajchandra Love and Care partnered with the Indian Consulate General, Sydney and Blacktown City, New South Wales to organise a tree plantation drive. In due commemoration of the 150th birth anniversary year of Mahatma Gandhiji and in honour of his global message of non-violence – the event was aptly titled ‘Trees for Peace’.

Held at Harpers Bush Reserve, Blacktown, over 300 people from diverse cultural backgrounds came together to plant approximately 150 large trees and 2,000 saplings under the expert supervision of horticulturists. The event also included a short cultural programme in rememberance of Gandhiji. As a mark of reverence, a plaque in honour of Gandhiji was unveiled at the park. The event was attended by Hon. John Sidoti – Minister for Sport and Multiculturalism, New South Wales; Hon. Manish Gupta – Consul General of India, Sydney and Hon. Stephen Bali – Mayor, Blacktown City Council. Several local Members of Parliament, Blacktown City councillors and community leaders also extended their support to this event.
